Brows brows brows! If there is one piece of makeup I could not go without it would be my brow pencil, even if I had no other makeup on I would always fill in my brows. So the idea of waking up everyday with perfect looking natural brows was very appealing to me! Although I like the shape of my eyebrows my natural hairs are very thin so do need filling in. In this post I will be sharing my experience of getting my eyebrows microbladed.
So what is microblading? When I first saw photos I just thought it was an eyebrow tattoo that had been done very well to show each hair stroke. But in fact microblading isn't really a tattoo as it uses a very different technique.
Microblading is a method that implants pigment under the epidermis using a specially designed tiny blade which leaves thin realistic hair strokes for the most natural finish. When using the hand held microblade, the colour is deposited closer to the surface than when a tattoo machine is used, leaving very fine and crisp hair strokes with no spilling, staining or colour bleeding under the skin. Microblading is semi permanent and can last up to two years (although regular top ups are recommended to keep the brows fresh and full).
After doing some research I decided to go for a consultation with Michelle at Chelle's Belles Beauty www.chellesbellesbeauty.com. I really liked her before/after pics and she was local which was perfect (this post is in no way sponsored but I did want to mention Chelle as I think she did an amazing job and I would 100% recommend checking her out if you are interested in microblading).
Microblading is a 3 step process... Firstly you will need to go for an initial consultation where you will discuss what results you are looking for and if microblading is right for you. You will also get a patch test done to ensure you are not allergic to the ink.
If all is OK the next appointment will be to get the first session of microblading done. At this appointment we designed how I wanted the brows to look and chose a suitable color. For me this was pretty straight forward as I wanted to keep the natural shape/color of my brows but just have them looking thicker and more defined.
Before Chelle got to work on my brows she applied a numbing cream followed by numbing gel. I didn't feel any pain throughout the procedure, you just feel a sort of scratchy sensation. I actually found it all rather relaxing!
Directly after the first session the brows look very bold and you can see each hair stroke that has been made which I found rather impressive. A cream was applied to the brows before I went home to keep them protected for the day.
In terms of healing I was advised to not wet my eyebrows for 2 days and make sure skincare products were kept away from the brows while healing.
After a couple of days I found my brows started to dry up and peel off a little (not nearly as much as when you have an actual tattoo) after about a week I think the majority of dry skin had come off and I was left with natural looking brows!
After about 4 weeks you will need to go back for a top up. You will be able to discuss anything you are not happy with and make sure your eyebrows are exactly as you'd like. For me personally, I was already really happy with how they were looking so I just had the same done again for my top up.
Below is a photo of my healed new brows. As you can see they still look super natural but are just thicker and more defined. Even when looking close up it's hard to see which strokes are not my natural hairs, I absolutely love them!
Overall I am so happy I decided to go ahead with microblading. It has saved me time each morning and I just feel more confident having brows I am happy with when wearing no other makeup. If you are looking to enhance your natural brows using semi permanent makeup I would definitely recommend looking into microblading. I will be posting updates over the next couple of years on how they last/fade, although I am already 99% sure I will be booking up top ups each year to keep them looking fresh!
Here you can see how my brows look after microblading with no makeup on them :-) perfect for busy mums haha!
If you have any questions please feel free to post on here or send me a message :-)
As always, thanks so much for reading and I hope this post was helpful/informative for some of you!
