Hello and welcome back to my site, I hope you have all been enjoying the beautiful sunshine!
In today's post i'm going to be talking about how to create consistency on Instagram and tips that have personally helped me create consistent content as well as a feed I love!
For anyone who uses Instagram for business you would have probably heard about the importance of creating a consistent style so your followers 'know what to expect', don't post loads of different things, keep a theme and so on. Like many people I have a variety of interests and things I want to share so this has definitely been something i've struggled with...
I personally like to post lifestyle/fashion photos with a hint of food and mummy duties. From my experience I feel like people who like one of these things often like the other so it's ok to mix and match these posts in my opinion...although I know some people would disagree!
For a while I did try to post only fashion/beauty but I started to feel that my page really wasn't reflecting me at all so I decided to take a step back and just post the things I was passionate about again.
I do use Instagram for business so of course I want my posts to be appealing to other people and brands but at the same time I really want my photos to reflect me, the things I love in life and be something I can look back on with lots of great memories. Social media can be a huge platform for comparison and competition so I think it's really important you just be yourself, and do what makes you happy!
As I do post a mix of fashion, lifestyle, food and mumlife I feel my feed can often lack consistency...so I really wanted to do something to really bring it all together. After a lot of research I came across the idea of using presets to create very similar editing styles and colours on every photo.
So, what are presets?
Presets are basically a bunch of editing settings that you create and save, you can then simple copy and paste all the same settings onto any photo. You can create presets yourself on photoshop or lightroom and there are also places you can purchase presets that have already been made. The great thing about this is that you can play around and create a style that you really love and feel reflect your images as you'd want them to be seen. It also saves a hugeeeee amount of time.
It may sound stupid but using presets has honestly changed my life haha... As someone who works as well as being a mum my time for taking/editing photos is so limited. It wasn't long ago I thought I would have to give up doing work on Instagram as I simple did not have the time to take and edit photos 'professionally'.
Before using presets I would take my photos using my canon 5D mark II camera and edit them on adobe photoshop CS5. For anyone who uses a pro camera you will know having to open and resize each photo in photoshop takes so much time alone. I now simply use the free lightroom app on my iphone with presets to edit all my instagram photos. I still use my DSLR to take some of my photos but the majority I just take on my phone. As you can imagine this makes life sooooo much easier.
As you can see, by using the same editing style and tones on every photo it makes my feed look a lot more consistent even though it's a mix of fashion, food and lifestyle. It's definitely not perfect but I do think it's a huge improvement... what do you think?!
Below I have put an example of a photo taken on my iphone before and after the preset. I just love how it looks afterwards, in my opinion it creates a whole different vibe!
I really believe that this simple trick has helped me to create photos and consistency on my instrgram that I love and am proud of. Trying to create content with a toddler running around is really challenging so being able to do everything on my phone in a matter of minutes makes the biggest difference to me!
I love sharing content with you all and now I feel like I can continue to do so on a regular basis!
For any of you wanting to revamp your insta or just looking for a way to cut down editing time this is a really good option. I'd recommend downloading the free lightroom app on your phone/computer and having a play around to create a style you love. (I know I have mentioned lightroom a few times in this post...this is no way sponsored or anything like that it's just the app I use which I personally find amazing).
I really hope this simple trick will help some of you the way it has helped me. Please let me know what you think in the comments! As always if you have any tips of your own that you are willing to share i'd love to hear them!
